The Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Prof Olugbenga Ige, has announced that 32 of its students graduated with first-class honours out of a total of 5,799 who completed various programmes in the 2025/2026 academic session.
Ige stated that the 32 first-class graduates of undergraduate programmes would be offered automatic employment as graduate assistants.
This, he said, in line with the university’s policy of retaining its best products, should the graduates wish to work at the institution after completing their National Youth Service Corps.
Ige said, “The university has a policy to give automatic employment to its best graduates. So, the 32 First Class graduates can get the opportunity, if they are willing, after their NYSC programme,” he said.
He provided a breakdown of the 5,251 undergraduate students, noting that 32 graduated with first class, 1,444 with second class (upper), 3,177 with second class (lower), 582 with third class, and 16 with pass degrees.
The graduating class also included 526 postgraduate students, of whom 32 earned PhD degrees and 492 earned master’s degrees, while two students would be awarded postgraduate diplomas.
Ahead of the convocation, the VC announced that the convocation lecture would be delivered on Wednesday by former University of Ibadan Vice-Chancellor, Prof Idowu Olayinka.
Ige, who will be celebrating his final convocation as the university’s vice-chancellor, highlighted that AAUA had consistently maintained 100 per cent accreditation for all its academic programmes from the National Universities Commission.
He added that his administration had prioritised the continuous training and professional development of staff.
“My administration has continued to safeguard the integrity of the university’s academic programmes in line with its vision to be a foremost institution that drives manpower development through self-apprenticeship and research,” he said.
“Despite severe financial constraints facing the education sector in the country, our university has achieved significant progress in infrastructural development.”
The VC also expressed appreciation to staff unions in the institution for their understanding, support, and exemplary solidarity, especially during challenging periods.
Their cooperation, he said, has been instrumental in fostering a harmonious environment and ensuring the smooth operation of the university.
