A former member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Danmaliki, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress and joined the Peoples Redemption Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Danmaliki, who represented Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and has been active in politics since 2003, announced his defection during a press briefing on Saturday.
He said his decision followed “careful reflection, sincere consultation and prayerful consideration,” stressing that it was driven by principle rather than political convenience.
“Today is not simply about changing political parties. It is about choosing principles over convenience. It is about choosing conviction over comfort. It is about choosing the people over power,” he said.
The former lawmaker maintained that he left the APC without resentment but with the conviction that leadership must respond to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
“I have decided to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress and formally join the Peoples Redemption Party. I do so without bitterness. I do so without malice. I do so with respect for those with whom I have worked over the years,” he added.
Danmaliki lamented the country’s economic challenges, saying millions of Nigerians were struggling with hunger, unemployment, poor healthcare and a lack of educational opportunities.
According to him, government exists to protect, empower and improve the lives of citizens rather than worsen their living conditions.
He described the PRP as a platform founded on social justice, accountability, quality education, affordable healthcare, rural development and economic opportunities, adding that the party’s ideals remain relevant to Nigeria’s current realities.
Speaking on Bauchi State, Danmaliki said the state possesses vast agricultural, mineral and human resources but has been hindered by poor leadership and the inconsistent implementation of people-oriented policies.
He recalled his years of public service as a journalist, commissioner, member of the House of Representatives, entrepreneur, President of the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, and founder of educational and healthcare institutions, saying his commitment had always been to improving people’s lives.
The former lawmaker also declared his support for Senator Shehu Buba, whom he said would fly the PRP flag in the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.
He described the senator as “a man of courage, vision and commitment,” pledging to deploy his political experience and networks to ensure the party’s success in the state.
Danmaliki called on youths, women, farmers, artisans, traders, professionals, traditional rulers and religious leaders to support the PRP, urging politicians to embrace issue-based campaigns instead of divisive politics.
He expressed optimism that, with honest leadership, prudent management of resources and people-centred governance, Bauchi State and Nigeria could overcome poverty and achieve sustainable development.
