
The premiere of the movie, Iwe Ala: An Ojude Oba Story, which held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Filmhouse Cinema, Lekki, Lagos State, brought together lovers of Yoruba culture, storytelling, and cinematic excellence for a night of glamour and cultural pride.
The movie which revolves around themes of love, forgiveness and originality, also depicts what goes on behind the scenes of the popular Ojude Oba festival. It features a lineup of actors including Owobo Ogunde, Mercy Aigbe, Dele Odule, Tobi Makinde, Eniola Ajao, Demola Adedoyin, Farooq Oreagba, Aishat Isiaka, and Tolu Otebiyi. The executive producer is Olawumi Fajemirokun, while it was directed by Adeoluwa Owu.
Speaking at the premiere, Fajemirokun said, “I am really thankful that we started making the movie last year, but we began writing it about two years ago. My heart is overjoyed, and not just about the film; we are also unveiling the EP for this movie. Indigenous stories are very close to my heart, and we want to leave an imprint for the next generation. That is why we hope to keep telling relatable stories that everyone can connect with.”
On his part, Owobo Ogunde described the movie as “a love letter to Ijebu.”
At the end of the event, guests were encouraged to visit the nearest cinema with loved ones and watch the movie, which officially premiered in cinemas nationwide on Friday, June 12, 2026.
