
The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested no fewer than 583 young men and women for alleged immoral acts during the just concluded Eid-el-Fitr celebration in the state.
The figure was disclosed in a statement by the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahid Aminuddeen, made available to journalists on Tuesday.
“During the Sallah, our personnel were able to arrest no fewer than 583 young men and women for committing various immoral acts.
“As you know, we deployed a total of 9,500 personnel across the state in order to check the excesses of such individuals, which yielded fruitful results,” he said.
Aminuddeen stated that 275 commercial tricycle operators were apprehended for plaiting their hair and sporting hairstyles considered indecent and contrary to Islamic teachings.
He added that 21 tricycle operators were also arrested for wearing three-quarter trousers, while 286 young women were nabbed for alleged indecent dressing during the festivities.
“These young women were caught in indecent dresses that exposed their bodies in the name of fashion,” he said.
He further disclosed that 85 tricycle operators were arrested for conveying male and female passengers together in ways deemed inappropriate.
In addition, the board said it recovered 66 missing children during the Sallah celebrations and reunited them with their families.
