Wema Bank has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its internal sports festival, Wemalympics.
The milestone edition, themed “We Strive, We Bond, We Win,” brought together over 7,000 employees, their families, partners, and sponsors to participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor games designed to promote fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie.
Team South West emerged as the overall winner, topping the medal table across multiple sporting categories. Team Lagos secured second place after a close contest in the football finals, while Team South South/South East and Team North placed third and fourth, respectively.
Wema Bank’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, commended all participants and supporters for their commitment and enthusiasm.
“This is our 10th Wemalympics, and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone — our staff who continue to participate actively year after year, the families who have supported us throughout, and our sponsors and partners for their unwavering contributions,” he said.
“The energy here today shows that there’s nothing we cannot achieve as a bank if we set our minds to it. As we compete with passion, let’s remember that we are one family, and we are all winners,” Oseni added.
Receiving the grand trophy on behalf of the winning region, Sunday Olaitan, Wema Bank’s Regional Executive for the South West, highlighted the significance of the competition in fostering unity and motivation among employees.
“Wemalympics has become a key part of our culture, and the South West team has consistently demonstrated excellence. This marks our fourth consecutive victory and our sixth overall as the Best Performing Region,” Olaitan said.
The grand finale featured a ceremonial lap around the track, cheerleading displays, and the unveiling of the official Wemalympics Anthem.
The tournament concluded with exciting prizes: two round-trip tickets for the winners of the male and female 100m races, courtesy of Wakanow, and a brand-new electric vehicle, the Wuling Bingo, for the Overall Best Region, donated by GAC Motors.
