As part of its ongoing efforts to train auxiliary social workers, the Zamfara State Government, with support from UNICEF, has reiterated its commitment to protecting children, addressing gender-based violence (GBV), and tackling other social vices across the state.
Speaking during the closing session of the training, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Aisha M.Z. Anka, emphasized the importance of the program and noted that the training was necessary to equip auxiliary social workers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively carry out their responsibilities in their respective communities.
Dr. Anka stated that the training was held under the directive of the Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, and was organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Federal University Gusau, and with technical support from UNICEF.
The initiative, she said, is aimed at addressing the alarming rate of child molestation, gender-based violence, and other social challenges in the state.
The Commissioner expressed her deep appreciation to Governor Dauda Lawal for his gender-friendly leadership and unwavering support to the Ministry and other development partners. She also acknowledged the contributions of independent donor agencies working to strengthen social welfare systems in Zamfara.
Dr. Aisha M.Z. Anka further applauded the tireless efforts of the Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, for her unwavering dedication to supporting women, children, and other vulnerable individuals across the state.
In her remarks, the State Coordinator for Child Protection, Hajiya Farida Abdulrazak Tigana, urged participants to adopt best practices and apply all learned modalities in discharging their duties diligently and effectively.
She also expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the peaceful and successful completion of the training, with no recorded health issues or interruptions.
Hajiya Farida extended special thanks to the Principal of Sambo Dan Ashafa Technical School, Gusau, Alhaji Musa Paila, for his support and cooperation, which contributed to the smooth conduct of the training programme.
