Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has carved out a reputation as one of Europe’s most consistent forwards, and nowhere is that more evident than in his performances against English clubs in UEFA competitions, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Galatasaray star once again delivered on the big stage, scoring the decisive penalty in Tuesday night’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at RAMS Park.
The result gave the Turkish champions their first Champions League win of the campaign and also firmed Osimhen’s reputation against English opposition.

He has faced Liverpool three times in the Champions League, registering two wins, one defeat, and a goal. His very first strike against an English side came in the 2019/20 Champions League, when he scored for Lille against Chelsea in the group stage.
Two years later, he terrorised Leicester City in the Europa League with Napoli, hitting a brilliant brace in a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium before missing out in the return fixture due to a broken cheekbone.
In total, Osimhen has made five appearances against English clubs in European competitions, scoring four goals.
Victor Osimhen’s Big-Game Moments
Osimhen’s first meeting with English opposition came during his time at Lille in the 2019/20 Champions League, when he scored against Chelsea in a group stage clash.
In 2021, he faced Leicester City in the Europa League with Napoli, scoring both goals in a dramatic 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium. He missed the reverse fixture later that year but had already made a statement.

More recently, Osimhen has lined up against Liverpool both with Napoli and now Galatasaray, netting once across three encounters. His latest strike — a cool penalty in Istanbul — sealed Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over the Reds and handed him the Man of the Match award.
Breaking Nigerian Records in Europe
Osimhen’s goal against Liverpool was his 10th strike in just 18 Champions League appearances, which makes him Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the competition proper—surpassing Obafemi Martins’ record of nine.

Notably, all of Osimhen’s Champions League goals have come in the group stage or knockout rounds.
Dreaming Big With Galatasaray
After his match-winning performance against Liverpool, Osimhen revealed his ambition with the Turkish giants:
“This is the biggest competition in the world, and we want to go far. We really have the quality to make sure that we achieve this objective,” he said. “It’s not going to be easy, but we will give our all to make history with this club.”
In the same competition, Galatasaray will face Manchester City on January 28 2026, at the Etihad Stadium, just 10 days after the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Nigerian attacker will be hoping to make a statement against another English club.
