The Rivers State House of Assembly has reconvened for its plenary session today, September 18, 2025, after a six-month suspension imposed during the State of Emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025.
The assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, held its sitting at the Assembly Residential Complex along the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.
Notable absentees from the plenary session included Hon. Oko Jumbo, Hon. Sokari Goodboy, and Hon. Timothy O. The reasons for their absence were not immediately clear.
During the session, the Rivers State House of Assembly resolved to write to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, requesting him to forward a list of commissioner nominees for consideration.
This move is part of the assembly’s efforts to get the state government back on track after the prolonged suspension.
The six-month suspension was imposed due to a prolonged political crisis arising from the rift between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
President Tinubu declared emergency rule in the state on March 18, 2025, citing the need to prevent anarchy and protect vital economic assets, including oil pipelines.
