Fresh crisis has erupted within the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the struggle for the party’s 2026 governorship ticket deepens, The Guardian has gathered.
Party leaders and members are reportedly divided over who should emerge as the flagbearer in next year’s election, with tensions rising over alleged attempts to unseat the state party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Lawal has been removed from office and replaced by former Commissioner for Information, Sunday Akere. The reported development has triggered backlash among stakeholders.
In a viral video, a former Commissioner under ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Adebayo Adeleke, was seen strongly criticising those allegedly plotting to remove Lawal, describing the move as detrimental to party unity.
Some party stalwarts, however, insist that restructuring the party’s leadership is necessary if APC hopes to reclaim power in the state, citing recommendations for internal reforms.
No fewer than 10 chieftains, including Bola Oyebamiji, Akin Ogunbiyi, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, Dotun Babayemi, Iyiola Omisore, Ajibola Basiru, Jide Omoworare, Mudashiru Hussein, and Benedict Alabi, have indicated interest in contesting for the party’s ticket.
Observers warn that the deepening internal wrangling, if left unresolved, could significantly affect the party’s chances in the 2026 governorship election.
