•Enugu South LG boss preaches unity, progress
Although Nigeria has yet to reach its desired destination, the citizenry should not lose hope of getting there, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said.
This was as the Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Council, Dr Caleb Ani, extended warm felicitations to Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and the resilient people of Enugu.
In his anniversary message, Otti noted that many contributed in one way or another to what the country is today; hence, “we should still work hard to get to that ultimate destination.”
He described his 29 months in office as challenging, but he thanked God that many things changed amid the reforms, which were very difficult.
“There may be difficulties, but we will go through the challenges and emerge victorious. If you look around the state, you will definitely agree with us that our schools are wearing new looks and more teachers have been deployed to the schools.
“We are not unaware of the challenging economic circumstances we face, but we must go through this, given the many years of financial indiscipline that we have all experienced,” Otti stated.
Also, in a stirring statement, the local council boss lauded the unyielding spirit, courage and determination of Nigerians, particularly the indomitable residents of Enugu South, who continue to shine as beacons of hope amid challenging times.
Ani reflected on the profound significance of the country’s 65th Independence anniversary, describing it as a moment to honour Nigeria’s journey and celebrate the collective strides made towards a brighter future.
“Under the visionary leadership of Governor Mbah, Enugu is charting a path of progress and transformation,” he declared. “Our governor came prepared for the sacred task of state-building, and his purposeful leadership is steering us towards a future of promise and prosperity.
“Today, even as we navigate economic challenges, we pause to give thanks for the dynamic leadership at both state and grassroots levels, which continue to inspire hope and unity.”
The 65th Independence Day, according to Dr. Ani, is more than a celebration. “It is a poignant reminder of Nigeria’s enduring strength and the sacrifices of its founding fathers, whose relentless struggle secured the nation’s freedom in 1960.
“This anniversary is a rare and significant milestone,” he noted, “an opportunity to reflect on our shared journey as a people, to celebrate our achievements, and to recommit to the ideals of unity, peace and progress that define us as a nation.”
He called on the people of Enugu South and Nigerians everywhere to honour the legacy of the nation’s heroes by working tirelessly for a united and prosperous Nigeria.
