Against the backdrop of the ongoing crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level, with the recent suspension and counter-suspension of some of its National Working Committee (NWC) members, the Osun State chapter of the party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday disagreed over the implication of the development ahead of the August 8, 2026, governorship poll in the state.
While the Osun PDP, in a statement by its director of media and publicity, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, said the party remains focused and solid despite the ongoing squabble bedevilling its national leadership, the APC, in a separate statement authored by its director of media and information, Kola Olabisi, contended that current realities indicate that the PDP had finally collapsed.
It is recalled that during its recent meeting in Abuja, the PDP NWC had announced the suspension of the party’s national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, national organising secretary, Umar Bature, National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, among others.
The PDP faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a counter-offensive, also announced the suspension of its national chairman, Umar Damagum, and five other NWC members.
Reacting to the development, the Osun PDP, in a statement by Bamiji, described the claim by the APC that it had suspended all party meetings at the state and local government level as a hoax, saying, “We remain united, solid, and focused on delivering the dividends of democracy under the purposeful leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke.”
The statement read, “No amount of falsehood or mischievous propaganda from a frustrated opposition can shake that foundation. We understand the dilemma of the APC, whose only strategy for 2026 is to pray that Governor Ademola Adeleke is disqualified from contesting.
“Such barren prayers have long been rejected by both God and the good people of Osun State. If the APC truly believes it has anything that looks like a fight, it should prepare for the ballot and stop clutching at imaginary crises in the PDP.
“The lazy gangsters parading themselves as APC leaders in Osun are only trying to polish their inevitable doomsday by hoping to be spoon-fed into power through some sponsored misunderstanding at the national level of our great party.”
Dismissing the position of the PDP, APC spokesperson Olabisi noted that the party had been vindicated by the turn of the unsavoury plight of the PDP, right from the national to the ward level, where monumental crises have been their lot.
He said, “We can only advise our numerous dedicated supporters to shine their eyes very well when it comes to giving their support for political parties, as it is now glaring that the PDP, which could not manage its own affairs successfully, should not be trusted with the management of the affairs of about five million people of Osun State.
“With the turn of events at the national headquarters of the PDP, it is apposite to observe and conclude that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s screening document, as the sole governorship candidate of the PDP in Osun State, which was flaunted with fanfare last Wednesday in Abuja, wasn’t better than a waste paper.
“It is right to say the PDP has since left the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is slated for its final burial soonest.”
