A Nigerian sexual and reproductive health expert and founder of Girl Power Afrique, Ogechi Ikhuoria, has been selected to attend the One Young World Summit 2025, holding in Munich, Germany, from November 3 to 6.
Ikhuoria, who is also a public health doctoral student in the United States, will participate in the summit as part of the One Young World Global Health Academy, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Speaking about her selection, Ikhuoria said she was excited to represent Nigeria on the global stage and contribute to discussions around family planning, maternal, newborn, and child health.
“It is a convening of young leaders who are passionate about solving real-world problems, and I look forward to sharing Nigeria’s story while learning from others doing impactful work around the world.
“These are issues affecting millions of women and their families, and I believe that through such global connections, we can find practical solutions that make care more accessible, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable,” she said.
The women’s advocate added that she hoped to return with fresh ideas, partnerships, and insights to strengthen her organisation’s ongoing work in improving women’s health outcomes in Africa.
The One Young World Summit is the largest global gathering of young leaders, bringing together over 2,000 delegates from more than 190 countries to accelerate social impact.
Delegates are mentored by prominent global figures, including President Mary Robinson,
Sir Bob Geldof, and Queen Rania of Jordan, and participate in four days of speeches, workshops, and networking designed to inspire leadership and collaboration.
Ikhuoria is one of eight global health champions selected from the One Young World Academy, a learning platform supported by the Gates Foundation to train young professionals tackling pressing global health challenges such as polio eradication, malaria, and maternal health.
Managing Director of One Young World, Ella Robertson McKay, said the summit provides young leaders with the tools and network to drive meaningful social change.
“We’re delighted to welcome the Global Health Academy Champions to Munich for the One
Young World Summit. Across the week, young leaders will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and a platform to affect meaningful change in their fight for inclusive and prosperous communities,” she said.
The 2025 edition of the summit will take place at Messe Munich, with the opening ceremony scheduled for Olympic Park, a landmark venue originally built for the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Since its inception in 2010, the One Young World Summit has hosted events in major cities including London, Johannesburg, Ottawa, and Montréal, building a community of over 18,500 ambassadors from 196 countries who have collectively generated more than $4 billion in social impact through projects promoting education, health, equality, and sustainability.
