Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai’s comment suggesting President Bola Tinubu is plotting a “life presidency”.
In a statement yesterday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, dismissed the claim as mischievous and reckless, emphasising Tinubu’s lifelong commitment to democracy.
Oladejo noted the President’s role in the country’s pro-democracy struggles of the 1990s, notably his involvement with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), emphasising his stance against military dictatorship, and risking personal freedom for the cause.
He described el-Rufai’s suggestion as “laughable and shameful given Tinubu’s consistent defence of constitutionalism and opposition to tenure elongation by past leaders.”
According to the Lagos APC, President Tinubu’s fidelity to Nigeria’s Constitution is proven and unquestionable, with the party stressing that the nation’s democracy is robust with term limits and checks and balances.
