Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has admitted that he was not involved in Stanley Nwabali’s exit from the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Last week, it was revealed that Super Eagles goalie Nwabali had decided to call time on his stay at Chippa United after four years with the club.
Since arriving in the South African Premier League in 2022, Nwabali has proven to be one of the continent’s best shot-stoppers. It was this form that opened the door for him to break into the Nigerian national team.

His performances have seen him linked with several top African clubs like Raja Casablanca, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs. Nwabali has also been linked with some clubs outside of Africa. However, previous talks failed to bear fruit, and the Super Eagles star continued his work at the club.
But after months of speculations about his future, Nwabali finally decided to terminate his contract by mutual consent with Chippa United. This came barely three weeks after he returned to the club following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The news has left the Chilli Boyz reeling, as Nwabali is the club captain and arguably theurvh. Meanwhile, Chippa United boss Vilakazi has revealed that he was left out of the picture in the conversations leading up to Nwabali’s exit.
What Chippa United Coach Vilakazi Said About Stanley Nwabali’s Exit
In a recent interview, Vusumuzi Vilakazi revealed that all the negotiations regarding Stanley Nwabali and the club were handled directly by the chairman.

“It is a blow [losing Nwabali] for us, looking at how Stanley did in Morocco. He’s a super keeper, but obviously with his decisions I’m not involved in that,” Vilakazi told FarPost.
“So it was a discussion between him and the chairman, and they’ve agreed. I will only work with people who are in the system. If there is a need for us to look for a goalkeeper so that the competition can be high, we’ll do so.”
Since his exit, Nwabali is yet to name his new club. In the meantime, the Chilli Boyz will be hoping to get a replacement for the Super Eagles star.
