Medical experts and wellness advocates have called for a deeper focus on women’s wellness, urging a broader understanding of health that integrates beauty, confidence, intentional living, and holistic self-care.
The call was made in a statement on Friday following a virtual conversation held to mark International Women’s Day, convened by medical expert and wellness advocate, Dr Chidinma Akpa, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of CGE Healthcare.
The webinar, themed intentional living and aligned with the “Give to Gain” philosophy, explored the intersections of beauty, wellness and self-perception.
It attracted participants from different regions, who engaged in discussions centred on knowledge sharing, confidence building and holistic self-care.
Speaking on the outcome of the webinar, Akpa said beauty should be redefined with intention, knowledge and confidence.
She said, “Beauty has always evolved, but today we are redefining it with intention, knowledge and confidence. As a doctor, I have seen how deeply beauty, power and wellness intersect in shaping a woman’s self-worth and life choices.
“In the spirit of Give to Gain, this webinar was about sharing knowledge, owning our narratives and empowering women to make informed decisions. When women are truly informed, they don’t just transform their lives; they step fully into their power.”
Akpa was joined by a panel of experts, including the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hello Perfect Aesthetics & Laser Clinics, Onyeeka Michael Ugwu, who spoke on the future of skincare, innovation in women’s wellness, and the integration of beauty with medical aesthetics.
Also on the panel was the Founder of Olorisupergal and Healthy Living with Tosin, Tosin Ajibade, who spoke on healthy living, fitness as a tool for empowerment, and discipline for longevity.
The Founder of The Maison Valour, Emelda Rufai, also spoke on building with intention, navigating the luxury business space, and achieving work-life balance.
The session was moderated by gender specialist and editor of Guardian Woman, The Guardian, Ijeoma Thomas-Odia, who guided the conversation.
The speakers collectively encouraged women to embrace authenticity, prioritise wellness, and take ownership of their personal journeys.
The webinar received positive feedback, with participants commending the authenticity of the discussions and the practical insights shared.
