Erstwhile Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, has described the extension of his suspension by six months as unconstitutional.
During plenary on Tuesday, the ex-Speaker, who was initially suspended for three months on August 26 for alleged impeachment attempts against Governor Hyacinth Alia, was again suspended for a further six months with immediate effect following a motion moved by the member representing Kyan State Constituency, Terna Shimawua.
Titled motion to review the suspension of Hyacinth Dajoh (Gboko West State Constituency), the sponsor argued that the former Speaker had neither shown remorse nor apologised to the House since his initial suspension three months ago.
Shimawua further accused the Dajoh of allegedly conspiring with the former Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer (Mbagwa State Constituency) and former Minority Leader, Michael Audu (Adoka-Ugboju) in a new plot to impeach the current Speaker, Alfred Emberga.
The motion was seconded by Simon Gabo (Mata State Constituency). Speaker Emberga upheld the motion, insisting that his predecessor must show remorse and tender a formal apology to the House before he could be returned to legislative duties.
