A former Commissioner and Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security, Prince Joe Okojie, has emerged as the candidate of the Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the August 16, 2025, National Assembly by-election in the Edo Central Senatorial District.
Okojie emerged as the winner of the PDP Primary election, which was held in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area of the state on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Those who contested for the Edo Central Senatorial ticket on the platform of the PDP are former Chairman, Esan North Local Government Council, Mr. John Yakubu; former House of Representatives Member for Esan South and Esan North-East Constituency, Friday Itulah, and former Commissioner of Agriculture, Joe Okojie.
Also, for Ovia Federal Constituency, only one aspirant, Johnny Aikpitanyi, was screened and cleared as the party’s sole candidate for the House of Representatives bye-election.
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Nehikhare, stated that the screening for Ovia Federal Constituency was conducted at the PDP State Secretariat in Benin for the House of Representatives. Okojie emerged as the winner of the PDP Primary election held in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area of the State.
