Super Eagles defender Felix Agu is set to return to training with Werder Bremen following a two-week stint on the sidelines, Soccernet.ng reports.
It has been a grueling season for Agu, who has spent more time in the treatment room than on the pitch.
Last October, an ankle injury sidelined him until early February, forcing him to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations—which was set to be his debut tournament with Nigeria. He also missed 13 matches for the Green-Whites during that stretch.

Upon his return, Agu was expected to play a key role in the club’s final push. However, he suffered a setback with an adductor injury during the warm-up against St. Pauli on February 22.
Although sporting director Peter Niemeyer initially suggested a quick recovery, the Super Eagles star has already sat out the club’s last two fixtures. But thankfully, his comeback is now firmly on the horizon.
Coach Confirms Agu’s Return to Training

Following Werder Bremen’s 4-1 victory over Union Berlin on Sunday, coach Daniel Thioune provided an optimistic update on Agu’s fitness, revealing he is scheduled to resume training later this week.
”If everything goes optimally over the next couple of days, Felix (Agu) and Samuel will return to partially integrated training on Thursday. It’s still a few days too early for Couli, and we have to wait and see with Jovan,” the coach stated.
This schedule means Agu will participate in light sessions this week as he builds back his match fitness.
As a result, he will be unavailable for the Bundesliga fixture against Mainz this Sunday. However, he is expected to be back in the selection pool for the trip to Wolfsburg.
A Boost for the Super Eagles?

Felix Agu’s impending return provides a significant boost for the Nigerian national team. It was Eric Chelle who handed the defender his first call-up, but recurring fitness issues have prevented the Franco-Malian coach from using him regularly.
With the 26-year-old nearing full fitness, there is naturally a temptation to include him in the squad for Nigeria’s friendly matches later this month.
However, they might employ a cautious approach. Given his recent history of relapses, Werder Bremen may look to manage his workload strictly.
The club might seek an agreement with the Super Eagles’ coaching staff to let Agu skip the March internationals to ensure he is fully recovered for the season’s last few games.
Regardless of the immediate decision, Agu will be desperate to put his injury woes behind him and finally establish himself in the national team setup.
