Dangote Refinery has assured Nigerians that three of its partners will sell petrol for ₦970 per litre nationwide despite the company’s recent increase in the ex-depot price of petrol. A spokesman for the refinery Anthony Chiejina said the recent adjustment in the company’s ex-depot price “is directly related to the significant increase in global crude oil prices”. In a statement on Sunday, Chiejina said, “While we have made a 5% adjustment to our ex-depot price from N899.50 to N950 per litre, it is important to note that this increase is considerably lower than the 15% rise in global crude oil…
The fact that councillors continue to be superfluous in the scheme of things at the local government councils could be traced to the ambiguities in Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution. In these circumstances, lawmakers in most state legislatures exploit the situation to undermine the constitutionally assigned roles of the councillors in the third tier of governance. SEYE OLUMIDE reports how the 8809 councillors across 774 councils merely earn salaries from tax-payers money without commensurate services. The seeming irrelevance of the estimated 8809 councillors spread across the 774 Local Governments in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory…

The President publicly appealed to me to put my plans on hold and after sometime we finally agreed that he would…
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana says Nigerians have already recognised the late MKO Abiola as a former president of the country. Abiola won the 1993 election which was annulled by former military president Ibrahim Babangida. Thirty years after the exercise, Babangida during the launch of his memoir admitted that Abiola indeed emerged victorious in the election but he annulled the poll due to “national interest”. Since Babangida’s admittance, there have been calls for President Bola Tinubu to recognise the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate as a former president of the country. But Falana argued that Abiola has since been accorded…
