“Stability is not everything,” the German economist and former finance minister Karl Schiller once observed, “but without stability, everything is nothing.” Nigeria in mid-2026 increasingly demonstrates the wisdom of the second half of that proposition. It may also be approaching the point at which the first deserves greater attention. Consider where we stand. Headline inflation declined to 15.91 per cent in June 2026; core inflation stood at 15.92 per cent, though food inflation remained higher at 17.52 per cent. The foreign exchange market is far calmer than in 2023 and 2024, the official rate near ₦1,380 to the dollar and…

Chukwueze has endured an inconsistent spell at the Rossoneri since joining from Villarreal in 2023. The Nigerian forward has shown flashes of his quality but has struggled to produce those performances consistently. After enjoying an impressive spell at Villarreal, Chukwueze has found it difficult to replicate the same level of consistency since moving to AC Milan and eventually became more of a fringe player. He spent last season on loan at Premier…

The trigger: BTC reclaimed $70,000 after the…
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has challenged his side to make amends for their “unacceptable” performances last season. The Reds finished a disappointing fifth in the Premier League and failed to win a trophy in a dismal campaign that ended in Arne Slot’s sacking. Just 12 months after winning the English title, Liverpool were beaten in 19 of their 56 matches in all competitions and 12 of their 38 league games — only one fewer than they had lost in the previous three seasons combined. They failed to get past the Champions League and FA Cup quarter-finals and bowed out…

Awoniyi scored 23 goals in 103 appearances for Forest throughout his time at the club. However, he was limited to more of a substitute role in his final few campaigns due to injury and fitness concerns, as well as the arrival of additional attacking options in the team. Despite having offers from abroad, the 29-year-old opted…
Dear Datti Baba-Ahmed, Yesterday, at the National Peace Committee event, I met Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Datti Baba-Ahmed’s elder brother and PRP chairman. I gently tapped him on the shoulder to say hello while he was standing with others. He immediately turned to me and, in the presence of his party’s presidential candidate, former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, declared that he was my “number one fan.” We laughed about it, but he reiterated that he wasn’t kidding. Donald Duke and I also exchanged a few words on the sidelines, including about something he has always enjoyed teasing me about.…
