The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dr Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Edo Central senatorial by-election. Prof Kingsley Omo-Iwoze, the returning officer, announced the result in the early hours of Sunday in Ubiaja, headquarters of Esan South-East local government area. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polling unit of Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, during a federal constituency by-election in Jigawa State. The Police Command in Ondo says a 29-year-old man, Bello Azeez, has been arrested for allegedly staging his own kidnap with the intent to extort money from his parents and acquaintances.
