The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) has appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to include town planning in its scholarship programmes and sponsorship to address the acute shortage of professional planners in the country. In a letter to NDDC Chairman, Chiedu Ebie, NITP President, Dr Chime Ogbonna, said Nigeria has fewer than 6,000 registered planners, equivalent to one planner for over 40,000 people.
