The Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor of Plateau State, Dr. Gyang Bere, has said that the attention of Governor Caleb Mutfwang has been drawn to a mischievous and ill-motivated open letter purportedly written to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and signed by one Sargwak Haruna under the guise of a faceless group, “Plateau United Front (PUF).” Bere said the letter attempts to mislead the President by drawing unnecessary controversy around his planned visit to Plateau State for the burial of the late mother of the National Chairman of the APC,…

Piqued by one too many sociopolitical and economic challenges that have troubled its corporate existence, some Nigerians have bemoaned the increasingly fractious state of the country on its 65th anniversary of independence. While the past has left a sour taste in the mouths of many, more disconcerting are the missteps of today and the attendant existential dread that offer little or no hope for the years ahead. Notably, the promise of nationhood that inspired optimism in 1960 has been repeatedly tested by the politics of exclusion, uneven development, insecurity, weak institutions and a decrepit system. At the heart of the…

Motorists, traders and residents along the Ikpoba-Okha/Uhumwonde Local Council boundary corridor on the Benin-Agbor Road have continued to lament the slow and chaotic spate of repairs on the federal highway, which, they said, is damaging their vehicles, disrupting transport, business activities, and general livelihoods. Despite ongoing rehabilitation works by the Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited, road users say the efforts are moving too slowly to address the worsening conditions. The road, which has shown signs of severe wear and failure since 2018, when the former Governor, Godwin Obaseki, labelled it a federal road, has deteriorated over the years due to poor…
Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has warned the incoming Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against rigging the 2027 presidential election. He gave the warning just as the former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, emphasised the need to use technological innovations to strengthen, not undermine, the legitimacy of elections in Nigeria. According to George, Nigeria will be “heading for hell” if INEC imposes a President and does not allow citizens to decide their leader in 2027. He issued the warning in an interview with Arise Television while discussing the speculations surrounding…
