President Bola Tinubu has vowed that his administration will defeat banditry and terrorism, assuring all that security forces are “fighting very hard” to restore peace and stability across the country. Tinubu spoke on Wednesday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, when he received leaders of the Ogbia community of Bayelsa State, pledging that his government would sustain the push against violent groups while also expanding development interventions in the Niger Delta. The President’s latest pledge came as communities in parts of the North-West, North-East and North-Central continue to battle insurgency, banditry, kidnappings and attacks on rural settlements, with the Federal…
Positive indicators have emerged that the North Central geopolitical zone would join its South/South counterpart under one political party control, following plans by Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The purported defection has been the subject of conjectures and disputations due to conflicting signals from the governor and the state APC. However, barely 72 hours after his Taraba State colleague, Agbu Kefas, defected, Muftwang seems to have made up his mind to abandon the troubled main opposition PDP. Dropping the hint of Muftang’s impending defection, his Special Adviser on…

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas’ defection from the embattled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has opened new possibilities, especially for opposition politics in the borderline North-East state, CHARLES AKPEJI reports. After initial guesses and pussyfooting, blamed on the abduction of some 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, the Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, recently sneaked leaders of the Hospital Ward chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Wukari Local Government Area into the Government House, where he performed a quiet ritual marking his entry into the ruling party. Talks about the governor’s ejection from,…
Debt service and personnel costs have swallowed more than the Federal Government’s total revenue for the first seven months of 2025, even as receipts fell sharply below target and capital projects suffered deep cuts. An analysis of the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, released on Wednesday on the website of the Budget Office of the Federation, showed that between January and July, the Federal Government earned N13.67tn as aggregate revenue, compared with a pro rata target of N23.85tn. That left a revenue gap of N10.19tn, representing a shortfall of about 42.7 per cent. This shortfall occurred amid…

Egypt emerged from Tuesday night’s 2–1 friendly victory over Nigeria with what their football federation described as nine clear gains, Soccernet.ng reports. The North African giants claim the result Nigeria has boosted confidence in the Pharaohs’ camp just days before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Played at the Cairo International Stadium, the encounter was Egypt’s final warm-up before AFCON and offered head coach Hossam Hassan several reasons for optimism, despite the absence of key stars such as Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, Trezeguet and Rami Rabia. The match served a different purpose for Nigeria but…
