The Senate has unanimously passed a vote of confidence in its leadership, defending it against allegations of sexual harassment. This comes barely two days after suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) addressed the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in New York, claiming she was suspended for raising sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Mr. Netufo Olaniyi Alaba, the suspended Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and Mr. Hassan Arivi Saddiq, Managing Director of Hassino Group Limited, for their alleged involvement in a 15 million naira (₦15,000,000) contract fraud. The Director General of the Labour Party’s Directorate of Mobilization and Integration, Marcel Ngogbehei, has said that internal wrangling over campaign funds frustrated the efforts of the late Dr. Doyin Okupe in stabilising the party during the 2023 presidential election. In a statement mourning Okupe’s passing, Ngogbehei described him as a statesman, political strategist, and advocate for national unity, whose contributions to Nigeria’s democratic evolution remain indelible. Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, reportedly died in a private hospital in Lagos on March 7, 2025.
