Oba Abimbola Owoade has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. Owoade succeeds the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who died on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83. The staff of office had earlier been presented to the new king by the Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, in January. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has injected $197.71 million to boost market liquidity and stability in the foreign exchange market.  The boost comes as global markets reel in shock with the tariffs imposed by United States President Donald Trump. The American president recently imposed a 14% import tariff on products from Nigeria. The development has affected the value of the naira to the dollar in the last few days, the CBN said.   Agency Report A non-governmental organisation, MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices, says it prevented 1.6 million unsafe abortions and averted 20,053 maternal deaths across the country in 2024.
