Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has pledged to restore all cultural heritage sites belonging to the people of the state.
He made this promise on Saturday during the 38th Lisabi celebration, held at Ake Palace in Abeokuta.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this year’s festival theme is ‘Back to Land; Panacea for Food Sustainability and Youth Empowerment in Egbaland.’
Abiodun identified the tourism sector as a significant avenue to enhance the state’s revenue generation.
He described tourism as a tool to preserve and appreciate the people’s culture and traditions.
The governor added that his administration would rehabilitate Olumo Rock, describing it as one of the state’s major tourist attractions.
He called the event’s theme appropriate, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda on economic revitalisation through agriculture.
Abiodun promised continued investment in agriculture to empower the youth and boost development in rural communities.
He also pledged to rehabilitate rural roads, easing the transportation of farm produce across the state.
Congratulating the people of Egba community, Abiodun said the Lisabi Festival promotes unity and strengthens cultural identity.
He urged Egba indigenes to uphold the legacy of Lisabi, the warrior who fought for their liberation.
Abiodun commended the Alake of Egba, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, for his contributions to the region’s socio-economic growth.
The Oba expressed joy over the colourful participation of Egba people in the celebration.
“Seeing people in different costumes shows unity, strength in culture, education, and pride in many good things,” the traditional ruler said.
He added that this year’s festival embraced innovation, introducing new elements to make the event unique and memorable.
“I welcome innovation. I want fresh ideas that will inspire imagination in our people,” he stated.
A former Ogun governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, also called for unity and mutual support among citizens.
“We must love one another. With peace and unity, all our royal fathers will be present next year,” he said.
He encouraged the people to avoid backbiting and instead support one another for collective growth and development.
“This festival fosters unity. Everyone, whether from Gbagura or Ake, is here, fully represented,” Amosun remarked.
NAN reports that the event was graced by dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other notable leaders.
