Leeds United will welcome Premier League giants Manchester United to Elland Road on Sunday for their gameweek seven encounter, and Swiss atacker with Nigerian roots Noah Okafor, will be looking to punish the Red Devils in front of his home fans.
Kick off time is on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 2:00pm WAT (2:00pm BST local) at Elland Road. Both sides arrive out of form, Leeds beaten at Arsenal last time out and Manchester United without a league win in three, which makes an already feverish fixture even harder to call.

Two players of Nigeria descent will be on duty for Leeds United – Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor. Okafor has a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother, which made him eligible to play for the two countries. But he opted to play for Switzerland at international level, rising through the youth teams to the senior team.
Nonetheless, he always acknowledges his Nigerian roots. Three years ago, he even wore a the Nigerian flag to celebrate the title trimph at Salzburg, an action that drew a lot of criticism.
Football fans in Switzerland are not happy that Noah Okafor is celebrating the Austrian title with the Nigerian flag.

It is a similar story for Nmecha – Born to a German mother and a Nigerian father, he opted to play for Germany at international level. However, he is seen as a fringe player. The Nigerian Football Federation made moves to get him to play for the Super Eagles in 2021, but he already had his mind set on Germany.
Leeds vs Manchester United Form Guide
Leeds have won once in their last five league matches, a 4-1 hammering of Newcastle United at home on September 14, either side of three draws against Brentford, Brighton and Crystal Palace.
Their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on October 10 ended a five-match unbeaten run, though James Justin’s equaliser there showed a team still capable of testing the division’s better sides. At home specifically, Leeds remain unbeaten in three Premier League matches this season.

Manchester United have managed only one win in the same period, a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town on August 30, followed by draws against Everton, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur sandwiched around a 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City.
The draw with Tottenham on October 10 saw Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead before Dominic Solanke equalised in stoppage time against ten men, a missed chance that has added to the pressure on interim head coach Michael Carrick. Three days later, United lost 2-0 at Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, with Leny Yoro sent off late in that match.
Leeds vs Manchester United Head-to-Head
The reverse fixture last season went to Leeds, winning 2-1 at Old Trafford on April 13, 2026, after a 1-1 draw between the sides at Elland Road the previous January. Manchester United won their last visit to Elland Road in February 2023 2-0. Across 94 Premier League meetings, Manchester United hold a clear historical edge with thirty-eight wins to Leeds’ twenty-three, with thirty-three draws completing the record, though the two most recent meetings have gone Leeds’ way.
Key Battles
Noah Okafor vs Leny Yoro
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.soccernet.ng%2Fmain%2F2026%2F10%2Fimago1083745298h.jpg)
Okafor is set to start on the left of Leeds’ attack, the position from which he scored three goals from eleven shots this season and has been Farke’s preferred route for stretching defences in behind. His direct opponent is likely to be Leny Yoro, a centre-back by trade who has been deployed at right-back since Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui both became unavailable through injury.
Yoro is quick and composed in the air, but he has far less experience defending in space against a winger who likes to drive inside off his left foot, and Okafor’s recent willingness to cut infield rather than chase the byline could pull United’s makeshift full-back into areas he rarely has to cover.
The duel carries extra weight given Okafor’s public falling-out with the Switzerland setup last month, a dispute with national coach Murat Yakin that has left him playing purely for his club shirt right now.
Bruno Fernandes vs Leeds’ midfield pivot
Fernandes has created 15 chances and scored three goals from 20 shots this season, and Manchester United’s attack has consistently run through him dropping deep to pick passes between the lines.
Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka form Leeds’ double pivot and will be tasked with cutting off those passing lanes before Fernandes can turn and find Amad Diallo or Mbeumo in behind. Leeds conceded space centrally in the defeat at Arsenal, and how quickly Ampadu and Tanaka close down Fernandes on the half-turn could decide how many clean sight-of-goal moments United’s captain gets.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin vs Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martínez
Calvert-Lewin has scored three of his team’s eight league goals this season and remains Leeds’ primary outlet from crosses and set pieces. Manchester United’s central defence, already missing Matthijs de Ligt, pairs Maguire with Martínez, neither a natural fit for tracking Calvert-Lewin’s near-post runs, and Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson both have the delivery to test that partnership repeatedly from wide areas.
Team News
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.soccernet.ng%2Fmain%2F2026%2F08%2Fimago1082205348.jpg)
Joe Rodon remains out for Leeds with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of full training since late August, while Daniel James is sidelined with a back problem and Mateo Joseph continues a long-term recovery from knee surgery. Ilia Gruev is a doubt. Harry Wilson has returned to training this month and is expected to start, with Jean-Matteo Bahoya fit enough for a place on the bench.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Trafford; Bogle, Elvedi, Muharemovic, Gudmundsson; Ampadu, Tanaka; Wilson, Stach, Okafor; Calvert-Lewin.
Manchester United are missing Patrick Dorgu, Benjamin Šeško, Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte through injury, with Noussair Mazraoui a doubt and both goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Tom Heaton given late fitness tests behind first-choice Senne Lammens. Leny Yoro’s dismissal at Atlético Madrid came in a European fixture and therefore carries no suspension into this Premier League match. Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo both returned from injury to start against Tottenham and are expected to continue.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Martínez, Shaw; Mainoo, Tielemans, Fernandes; Amad, Cunha, Mbeumo.
The Verdict
Leeds United 2-1 Manchester United
Okafor’s pace against a makeshift right-back and Calvert-Lewin’s aerial threat against an unsettled central pairing should give Leeds enough at Elland Road, even with Fernandes expected to get United back into it. Likely scorers: Okafor, Calvert-Lewin (Leeds United); Fernandes (Manchester United).
