Coventry City: Jack Rudoni’s love for Afrobeats and Wizkid revealed

Coventry City midfielder Jack Rudoni may have spent his football career in England, but his taste in music appears to have taken him thousands of miles away, as he appears to be a big fan of Nigerian Afrobeats, Soccernet reports.

The 25-year-old has emerged as an unlikely fan of Afrobeats, with his social media activity offering an interesting glimpse into his musical preferences. And at the centre of it is one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars — Wizkid.

Rudoni, who joined Coventry from Huddersfield Town in 2024, has become an important figure for the Sky Blues and was named the club’s Player of the Year after an impressive first season.

But away from the pitch, his appreciation for Afrobeats has caught the attention of fans.

Wizkid’s Connection To Coventry City Star

Rudoni’s apparent love for Wizkid is particularly interesting given the global reach of the Nigerian singer’s music.

Wizkid has been one of the leading figures in taking Afrobeats to audiences outside Africa, and Rudoni’s engagement with the genre shows just how far Nigerian music has travelled.

His social-media posts, dating as far back as 2024, have drawn attention to Rudoni’s Afrobeats preference.

For Nigerian football fans, it makes for an unusual connection to a player who has increasingly become familiar to them through Coventry’s rise.

A first, it would look like the presence of Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka at Coventry City is what influenced the Englishman. But Onyeka only started playing for the Sky Blues at the turn of the year. But his love for Nigerian music can be traced as far back as 2024 on Instagram.

It is not even just Wizkid’s music, Rudoni also listens to Asake, Wande Coal and Olamide.

Does Jack Rudoni Have Nigerian Roots?

Rudoni was born in Carshalton, south London, and he is fully English. He has links to the United States of America through his granfather, and even attempted to play for the US in international football, but it did not wok out for him.

Rudoni’s surname also suggests some Italian, but there is nothing substantial to prove that.

As for Nigeria, he has nothing linked to Nigeria. In fact, his teammates Onyeka and Taiwo Awoniyi are the only links he has to Nigeria.

Rudoni has featured in five games for Coventry City this season, but he is yet to score or assist any goal for the club.
