The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden on Saturday organised a maternal and child health outreach at the Obalende Primary Health Centre, near Dodan Barracks, Lagos, providing free healthcare services and essential support to mothers and children.
The humanitarian initiative, implemented in partnership with Spectre NG Healthcare, HACEY and the C4HER Initiative, was designed to improve access to quality maternal and child healthcare services for vulnerable families within the community.
Speaking during the outreach, President of the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, Rotarian Abiodun Olawale-Cole, said the project reflected the club’s commitment to improving maternal and child health through sustainable humanitarian interventions.
He added that beneficiaries received health education, over 60 lives enrolment into the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme, free medical screening for mothers and children, free sickle cell screening for children, and the distribution of children’s clothing and shoes.
The club also donated 500 birthing kits to expectant mothers to promote safer pregnancies and childbirth.
According to Olawale-Cole, the outreach is part of Rotary’s efforts to ensure that more mothers have access to quality maternal healthcare while giving children a healthier start in life.
“The impact of what we have done is going to be immense, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the donations from members of Rotary Club, if Lekki Golden and all our partners,” Olawale-Cole said.
“For all the enrollments we have done into the Eko LASHMA health scheme, we are going to renew and expand them next year,” he added.
The outreach attracted healthcare professionals, Rotarians, volunteers, development partners and community leaders, who collaborated to expand access to essential healthcare services and strengthen community health.
Maternal and Child Health is one of Rotary International’s areas of focus, with programmes aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality, strengthening healthcare systems and supporting vulnerable communities through sustainable humanitarian initiatives.
The outreach aligns with Rotary International’s 2026–2027 theme, “Create Lasting Impact,” reaffirming the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden’s commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
