The wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called for increased empowerment for women across the country, saying empowering women would strengthen society and place the nation in safer hands.
Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, also said women are trustworthy and capable, noting that anything entrusted to a woman is handled with care and responsibility.
She spoke on Friday at the 2026 Anambra Women Summit organised by the All Progressives Grand Alliance at the party’s regional office in Awka.
Addressing participants on the theme, ‘Empower her, elevate all’, the governor’s wife emphasised that empowerment begins with self-realisation and self-motivation, urging women to acquire skills and engage in productive ventures rather than relying solely on external support.
She noted that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has prioritised empowering women and creating opportunities based on competence rather than gender.
“What we have come here to do today is to celebrate women. Women, as I always say, are unique beings — very intelligent, strong, hardworking, truthful and positive. We need to celebrate women every day in a special way.
“A happy wife is a happy home. When a woman is happy, the home is at peace, and the community is at peace. When we empower women, we empower society”, she said.
Soludo also encouraged women to remain active in community development and revive communal values that promote unity and collective responsibility.
“We must go back to communal living of ‘be your brother’s keeper’. Many things are going wrong because people are no longer their brother’s keeper,” she added.
She further advised women to prioritise their health, stressing the importance of healthy living, proper nutrition, exercise and mental wellbeing.
“Take care of yourself, eat right and healthy, exercise, drink water. Health is the greatest wealth. Improve on your mental health and be intentional about taking care of your health,” she said.
The governor’s wife also highlighted various forms of empowerment, including economic, educational, health and social empowerment, and presented cash support and empowerment materials to some participants.
She added that collective action among women could influence government policies and programmes, noting that the state governor is committed to initiatives that promote development in Anambra.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Seahorse Company, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, said the summit was organised to equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to become self-reliant and influential leaders.
Onunkwo urged participants to demonstrate good character and remain supportive of the administration of Governor Soludo in its efforts to make Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland.
In her remarks, the state APGA Women Leader, Esther Onyekezi, expressed appreciation to contributors to the success of the summit and reaffirmed the women’s support for the Soludo administration and the party.
The event featured a march past by APGA women from the 21 local government areas of the state, with Ogbaru Local Government Area emerging first, Awka North second, and Idemili North third.
The winners received cash prizes and other gift items.
