With more opposition leaders crossing over to the ruling party in Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani has said his leadership style and infrastructural development across board have attracted decampees to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Besides, he recalled that the opposition had 12 members in the House of Representatives as of May 29, 2023, while the ruling party had just four legislators in the lower legislative chamber of the National Assembly.
However, the governor stated that in the last two and a half years, 10 members of the House of Representatives have defected from opposition parties to the APC, saying that Kaduna is now essentially one political family.
“PDP had 12 members in the state House of Assembly, but today, seven have decamped to APC. That is a sign that we are running an inclusive government,” he added.
The governor spoke at Kafanchan Township Stadium, where Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Southern Kaduna and three other legislators defected from PDP to APC during a mega rally at the weekend.
Sani further noted, “Kaduna State is now one big happy family under the canopy of APC. I am also calling on those who are yet to come on board to cross over to our party.”
Other lawmakers who defected include Dan Amos, a member of the House of Representatives representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency; Ali Kalat, a State Assembly member from Jema’a constituency; and Yusuf Mugu, a member of the House of Assembly from Kaura constituency, as well as thousands of their supporters.
With the latest defections, Southern Kaduna, which had been a political stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999, has transformed into an APC region, as all elected members are now in the ruling party.
