• North will stand with Tinubu, South-West till 2031, Arewa Think Tank reiterates
• Tinubu’s policies yielding results, Afenifere restates
Some leaders from the northern part of the country, yesterday, visited the leadership of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, to declare their collaboration with the South-West in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The northern leaders, under the aegis of the Arewa Think Tank, said they were impressed with the midterm scorecard of the President, hence the move to support him to run for a second term.
Convener of the group, Muhammad Yakubu, led the team from the North to visit leaders of Afenifere at the residence of its National Leader, Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Yakubu stated that the Think Tank group comprised professionals from the 19 states of the North, while a former Governor of Kaduna State, Muktair Yero, is their chairman.
The Arewa Think Tank said that the North would stand with Tinubu and the South-West region until 2031, going by what it described as Tinubu’s political astuteness and economic initiatives.
According to Yakubu, the visit became imperative to present the “impressive” midterm scorecard and to reassure the South-West of support and co-operation of Northern Nigeria beyond 2027, stressing that Tinubu has done well in the last two years.
He said: “So, we are here today to renew our relationship with the South-West and to reassure that the North will stand by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu. And we want to also thank you, sir, for the South-West to have given us a Nigerian President who has a vision, a mission, and has done well in the last two years.
On his part, Fasoranti, who commended the Arewa leadership for their resolute commitment to fostering a genuine partnership grounded in truth, fairness and inclusivity, said that the move would revitalise collaboration built upon the historic unity of Nigeria’s founding fathers in pursuit of a just and flourishing federation.
Also, the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, Abagun Kole Omololu, in the communiqué issued after the meeting, said: “We are on the same page. We believe we have found in Nigeria a leader with audacity, a leader with vision and courage.
“This renewed Arewa-Yoruba alliance stands as a beacon of hope for a nation yearning for principled leadership and moral guidance. The meeting concluded with both sides pledging to promote peace, harmony, and true federalism for Nigeria’s stability and unity.”
