The lawmaker representing Akoko South East/South West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Adegboyega Adefarati, has pledged continued support for security agencies to combat crime and insecurity in his constituency.
Adefarati made the pledge while laying the foundation for a new Police Area Command office in Iwaro-Oka, Akoko South West Local Council, and donating a brand-new Toyota Hilux patrol van to the Akungba Police Station.
He said the initiative was in response to rising criminal activities in Akungba, home to Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), and was aimed at improving police response and community safety.
According to him, the Area Command project will be executed in two phases, with the first phase focusing on the construction of the command office and the second phase providing residential quarters for police officers.
“This gesture underscores my commitment to supporting security agencies and promoting community development. The vehicle will strengthen police patrols, improve response to incidents, and help maintain law and order—particularly in areas hosting institutions such as Adekunle Ajasin University,” Adefarati said.
He stressed that security remains a shared responsibility between government and citizens, assuring constituents that he would continue to prioritise initiatives that enhance safety.
Adefarati also highlighted his interventions in agriculture, education, youth empowerment, water supply, and infrastructure, which include the distribution of fertilisers and farm inputs, construction and renovation of classroom blocks, bursary awards, drilling of solar-powered boreholes, and installation of solar streetlights across several communities.
He listed training programmes through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), sponsorship of motions and bills, and facilitation of federal job placements for youths in his constituency.
