Kwankwaso has notified APC of his return with Kano gov, Igbokwe claims
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has made his first major political appearance in Kano State since resigning from his position three months ago.
Ganduje joined other party leaders at a closed-door meeting of the Kano APC. At the gathering in Abuja, yesterday, aimed at strengthening the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, stakeholders of Kano APC pledged to reclaim the state from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; former governor and senator, Kabiru Gaya; Sen Abdulrahman Ismaila; Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abba Bichi; Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Ata; Sen Basheer Lado; Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, among others, were at the meeting.
After the meeting, Ganduje said the session was convened to assess the strength of the party in Kano and to send a clear signal of support for President Bola Tinubu.
“We in Kano APC are solely behind him,” Ganduje stated. “You are all aware of what happened in the last election. We were about to win, but we didn’t win again. Since then, our party has remained intact, and thanks to the policies of the President, we have been able to attract high-profile figures from other parties.”
Ganduje highlighted recent defections to the APC, including serving legislators at both federal and state levels, commissioners and even the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) from the NNPP government.
He further disclosed that the stakeholders would intensify mobilisation during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. On his part, Jibrin said the meeting acknowledged the President’s projects and appointments in Kano and across the North, describing Tinubu as a dependable ally of the state.
“The meeting examined the state of our state and our party. We counted several projects that have been implemented, and others are ongoing in our state and indeed other Northern States. Tinubu, has done well,” Jibrin said.
Meanwhile, APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, said the former presidential candidate of NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has reportedly written to the ruling party, notifying it of his possible return.
Igbokwe said the NNPP leader might return alongside Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano. In a post on his Facebook page, Igbokwe expressed optimism that the more people defect to the ruling party, the better it is. Efforts to reach Kwankwaso’s camp and confirm the claim as of press time proved unsuccessful.
