The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to deploy over 100 personnel and heavy-duty tow trucks to manage traffic and prevent crashes along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway during the ember months.
Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fashakin disclosed this in an interview in Abeokuta, saying the measure aims to reduce accidents and ensure smooth travel for commuters, especially those on business and holiday trips.
Fashakin noted that the deployment will cover major flashpoints including Ijebu-Ode, Ogbere, Ajebandele, Benin, and Ore.
He added that corridor command officers will be on standby to assist in managing traffic gridlocks caused by ongoing road construction.
“This is a critical corridor, and we are bracing up for the challenges of the ember months. We will also collaborate with private tow truck owners to ensure no one sleeps on the road due to breakdowns,” he said.
The commander urged motorists, particularly truck drivers, to avoid speeding, drunk driving, overloading, and using worn-out tyres, stressing that driver impatience and indiscipline are major causes of road crashes.
He assured that FRSC will continue to synergise with other agencies to keep the highways safe throughout the season.
