Mustapha Ibn Mustapha was arraigned before the Borno State High Court on Tuesday for defrauding victims and selling a piece of land belonging to the Borno State Government.
In a press statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, Mustapha received the sum of N5,555,000, which he received from unsuspecting victims for the sale of thirty plots of land situated and lying at Njimtilo, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
“He was arraigned on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, on a three- count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and criminal conspiracy to the tune of N5,555,000.00( Five Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Five Thousand Naira only),” the statement read in part.
According to the EFCC, the land, which is situated behind Borno State University, was not his, but belongs to the Borno State Government.
He failed to deliver the land to the unsuspecting victim of the land fraud, and all efforts to recover the money proved abortive.
The anti-graft commission noted that Mustapha’s action contravenes Section 1 and is punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
Mustapha pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to him in court on Tuesday. The counsel for the defendant, S.O. Saka, appealed to the court to decide a date for his trial and remand him in a correctional centre.
