Residents of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State have been thrown into mourning following another night of violence that left at least six people dead in Ikn’gwakap, the headquarters of the Chiefdom.
The attack, which occurred late on Sunday, September 14, 2025, reportedly claimed the lives of women and children while they were asleep. Several others are still missing, leaving families gripped by fear and uncertainty.
In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary of the Mushere Youth Movement (MUYOM), Kutyil Gashion Nahum, condemned the killings and decried the lack of arrests despite repeated attacks on communities in the area.
“It is both alarming and unacceptable that despite repeated attacks on Mushere communities, not a single perpetrator has been arrested or neutralized. This persistent failure highlights the urgent need for a total overhaul of the security architecture in the area,” the statement read.
The group called on government at all levels to fulfill its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property, warning that continued inaction only emboldens attackers to commit further atrocities.
Some residents who escaped the attack claimed the death toll could be higher than six, saying they were told by relatives that at least 10 bodies had been counted.
Efforts to get a response from security operatives proved unsuccessful, as calls to the Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, and the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Major Samson Zhakom, went unanswered.
The Mushere Youth Movement urged residents to remain vigilant and united while continuing to press for justice and lasting peace.
